LC0182

A composition about ripeness. The ear of grain is a form with a season: it exists only at the end of summer. The author takes a pointed leaf with two short offshoots at its base and repeats it hundreds of times, tips upward — the result is a sheaf raised on a gold stem.

The rows are offset from one another by half a step, so the column reads as plaited rather than stacked. The lower half is left bare: the mass gathers at the top, at eye level, like grain on a stalk.

By day it is pure form — white gloss on gold, a sculptural ear of grain with no visible source of light. In the evening the light emerges from deep in the column through the gaps between the leaves, lights the rods from within, and the vertical fills with a warm glow while staying white on the outside. A sheaf with the sun hidden inside it.

Where it works

Living rooms, bedrooms, reception rooms, lounges, showrooms. The soft diffuse glow without direct glare suits rest areas and bedrooms.

Style

Organic modernism and rustic luxury: a natural motif presented without folklore. The message is warm and domestic — a piece for an interior that speaks of plenty rather than status.

The column height, the number of elements, the tone of the glow and the finish of the rods are all made to order.
