The Vargov®Design generative 3D configurator

The generative 3D configurator assembles a suspended composition from the brand's own elements, shows it in three dimensions and hands over the specification it will be made from.

Choosing bespoke lighting usually goes like this: the architect finds a suitable composition in the catalogue, writes an email, describes the size and density in words — and waits. A day later a rendering arrives. Something is off: too many elements, the silhouette is wrong. Another email, another day.

The configurator removes that correspondence. The composition is assembled straight in the browser, in a few minutes, and is immediately visible in three dimensions.

What it does

You set a catalogue article and the cloud's dimensions in millimetres — the engine pulls in the element's real sizes, its wattage and its three-dimensional form. Then comes the shape of the composition itself: cube, sphere, hemisphere, cone, cylinder, pyramid, ring, spiral, wave, funnel, drop, bowl, lens, dome, cascade, vault, screw, ribbon, thread or free form — twenty options.

Density is airy, medium, dense — or an exact number of elements. Layout vertical, horizontal or mixed; rotation random, from the centre or on a regular grid; tilt on any axis from −90° to +90°. Two articles can be mixed in one composition at a chosen ratio.

Colour comes from the factory RAL catalogue — 210 shades searchable by code and name, plus the brand's white and gold. There is deliberately no custom palette or eyedropper: the specification must carry a colour the workshop can actually match.

A layout that does not lie

What matters in generative assembly is not a pretty picture but physical honesty. Neither elements nor cables intersect. Each element's cable is checked against its real fixing point — a socket on some forms, a hole in the glass on others — and against the true silhouette of its neighbours, taken from the model itself. The rule is verified automatically before every layout.

One configuration always yields the same layout: a colleague opening your link sees exactly the same thing. A regenerate button offers another variant at the same density.

Ribbons have their own engine: ten articles are built not as a cloud of elements but as a continuous ribbon of glass tubes on a frame — its own plasticity, its own length, its own drawing and a colour transition along it.

The figures an installer needs

The configurator shows the number of elements, the cloud's actual dimensions, the lowest point below the ceiling, a breakdown by size, total wattage — and the weight of the composition, calculated automatically from its content.

Weight is not a reference figure. It decides which anchor holds the suspension and whether the slab needs reinforcing. That number used to be worked out by email once the content was agreed; now it is there from the start, alongside the silhouette.

What you can take away

A DXF for AutoCAD with plan, elevations and the marking of suspension points — issued by the brand's Telegram bot. A PDF specification with content, dimensions and a QR code for the configuration. A 3D model of the composition in max and fbx for your own visualisation. Projects are saved in a personal account, and the link carries the full state of the configuration.

The composition can be tried on in your own room from a phone: USDZ on iOS, GLB on Android. The interface runs in eight languages, Arabic right-to-left included.

How it differs from a typical configurator

Real products stand in the scene. 282 forms are taken from production models — with glass thickness, brass sockets and the points where the cable arrives on the shop floor. Not icons, not placeholder spheres.

The composition is generated, not picked from a list. The engine lays elements out through the volume of the chosen shape, watching the silhouette and the gaps; given a variant number it reproduces the composition bit for bit.

The brand's rules are built in and checked automatically. The cable never crosses glass — a ray test against the mesh triangles; bodies never touch; the cone's slope runs straight from the top tier to the tip. Guards run these checks before every layout.

Mass is derived from geometry: shells by wall thickness, sheet by its own geometry, cast pieces by volume — and reconciled with factory shipments.

How much there is

The configurator holds 495 articles: 341 lighting compositions and 154 decorative ones. 315 of them carry the product's real three-dimensional geometry, and the form catalogue counts 282 entries. Layout density is calibrated against 428 actual orders. The interface runs in eight languages, there are twenty composition shapes, and the configurator accounts for 934 indexable pages: 467 Russian and 467 English.

An outside opinion

The 3D configurator was accepted and judged at Awwwards — the international platform that selects the world's best websites on design, usability, content and creativity. Status: Nominee 2026. For a tool doing narrow work for a narrow audience, that confirms it is comfortable to use for an outsider too.
