A second win at the European Product Design Award

On 21 September the jury of the European Product Design Award named this season's winners. Among them is our light composition LC0543-2 — entered as Crystal Breakthrough, in the Professional section, category HOME (Household Products) / Home Lighting: Designer / Custom Lighting.

About the award

The EPDA is a European product design competition: entries are judged by an international jury, and every winner gets a page of its own on the award's site. This is our second win here: in 2023 the LC0339 composition took Winner in Home Lighting: Hanging / Pendant.

The certificate is signed by the award's president, Hossein Farmani. It sits in our awards section — the twenty-fifth in the list.

Why this composition

LC0543-2 is an array of bodies released into the air: dozens of volumes at different heights, each with its own vertical slit of light. It is not the body that glows but the slit. The device is not new for us, but in the plural it reads differently: there it was a single pause, here it is their rhythm.

By day it is a sculptural field: the torn texture reads as relief, the points converge on a single element hanging lower than the rest. In the evening the slits light up through the whole depth of the array, and the field turns into a stream running downward — the light seeps from inside while the volume itself stays opaque.

What the award means to us

There is no series here: the number of elements, the depth of the array and the colour temperature are set for one particular room. A piece like that is hard to judge from a single photograph — which makes it worth more when a jury that sees hundreds of works a season picks it out.

Nothing changes in production because of an award: the same assembly by hand, the same drawings and the same 3D model the client sees before anything is made. What changes is only the confidence that the direction is right.
