Table art object

A composition about a dialogue between the wild and the perfect. The base is an unworked black stone with chipped facets, but on its cut face a honeycomb pattern is carved: as though the rock had begun turning into ornament by itself. Above the stone, at an angle, sits a disc with the same relief.
The pattern of the stone picks up the pattern of the disc: the unworked and the perfect turn out to share one nature. Every object is unique — the stone of the base is never repeated.
By day it is a sculpture on a table: the relief reads through light and shade, the chips of the stone through texture, a tactile and complex piece. In the evening light is born at the golden centre and spreads through the cells: the matte disc glows evenly, like a moon; the faceted one breaks the light into hundreds of highlights. A pair is especially expressive — a matte one and a clear one side by side.
Where it works
A console, a mantelpiece, a bedside table, a desk. The compact format (300 × 220 mm, 440 mm tall) gathers a surface around it without needing any ceiling space.
Style
Wabi-sabi and natural minimalism: the fracture and the ornament in one piece. The message is contemplative — a piece for the inner circle.
The execution of the disc, the character of the stone and the finish of the centre are all made to order.
