A sun that has a reflection. A crown of petals radiates from the centre, and in the middle there is a mirror: the object is a luminary and a window at once.

Each petal reads as a volume thanks to the darkened recesses, and the whole crown shimmers at the slightest movement of the viewer. The backlight is hidden behind the frame and escapes along the contour, drawing a halo on the wall.

By day it is a classic sunburst mirror in a formal frame — a piece you notice first and look into second. In the evening the halo turns it into a glowing disc and the reflection recedes: the mirror stops being a mirror.

Style

Art Deco and neo-baroque: gilding, symmetry, mouldings, deep tones. The message is ceremony — the object greets whoever comes in and sets the tone for the whole house.
