Lighting compositions and decorative compositions differ in their primary function and purpose:
Lighting compositions
- Their main purpose is illumination. They are made to do a lighting job: ambient, accent or decorative light.
- The focus is on the choice of light sources, their placement and the control of light, in order to achieve a particular visual effect or the right atmosphere.
- They may combine different types of lighting — LED panels, luminaires, strips and other elements aimed at delivering the required brightness and light level.
Decorative compositions
- Their main purpose is aesthetic. They are made to bring decorative elements into an interior, to improve the way it looks and to create a visual accent.
- The focus is on design, form, colour and texture rather than on the functional side of lighting.
- They may include static or moving decorative elements — sculptures, paintings, textiles and other objects, which can be lit, but whose main role is visual.
In some cases the two overlap: when lighting elements are used as part of the décor, they produce a synergy that unites the function of illumination with that of decoration.
