Which installation method to choose?
The pros and cons of every mounting option: a prepared ceiling with concealed backing, an access hatch, or a base plate.
There are several ways to install Vargov®Design light compositions, and each one has its own character. Let us look at the pros and cons of each option: installation into a prepared ceiling with plywood backing, installation using an access hatch, and installation on a base plate.
1. Installation into a prepared ceiling with plywood backing
Pros
- The fixings stay almost invisible: once installed, the composition looks as clean and elegant as it possibly can, because every mounting element is hidden above the ceiling.
- Space saved: the composition takes up the least possible room, which matters in spaces with a low ceiling.
- Freedom in placing the elements: they can be mounted at different heights and fixed precisely according to the installation drawing.
Cons
- The preparation is demanding: the ceiling has to be prepared in advance (reinforced with plywood backing, holes drilled), which can mean extra cost and extra time.
- Access to the drivers: replacing or servicing the drivers means getting into the void above the ceiling, which is awkward without a hatch.
2. Installation using an access hatch
Pros
- Easy servicing: an access hatch gives quick and convenient access to the drivers, the wiring and the components of the system, which makes maintenance or replacement of equipment straightforward.
- Hidden components: all the technical parts stay above the ceiling, and the composition keeps its clean appearance.
- Safety: should unscheduled servicing or repair work be needed, the system can be reached quickly without disturbing the ceiling structure.
Cons
- The hatch is visible: an access hatch can be noticeable on the ceiling and may affect the look of the room, especially in minimalist interiors.
- Planning is required: a place for the hatch has to be allowed for while the ceiling is still being designed, so that it does not disturb the aesthetics of the room.
3. Installation on a base plate
Pros
- The system is fully integrated: the drivers and the other components of the composition sit inside the base, which makes the connection compact and entirely self-contained.
- Simpler installation: no special ceiling preparation and no drilling of multiple holes — a single 220 V feed is enough.
- Easy servicing: all the technical components are readily accessible in the base, so they can be serviced or replaced without touching the ceiling.
Cons
- The room it takes: the base is 80 mm high and upwards and occupies extra space on the ceiling, which may be unwelcome in rooms with a low ceiling.
- Visual bulk: the base can be noticeable and adds volume, which does not always suit minimalist or deliberately light interiors.
Conclusion
The choice of installation method depends on the interior, on the ceiling height and on how much servicing you expect to need later on:
- A prepared ceiling with plywood backing suits projects where it is important to hide every mounting element and keep a minimalist look.
- An access hatch is the best option when convenient access to the drivers and the wiring is needed for maintenance, especially on large projects.
- Installation on a base plate is convenient for projects where the installation has to be simplified and the technical parts gathered into a single housing, but it can make the space feel visually heavier.
