Driplight floor lamp

A composition about a joke told in earnest. Driplight repeats the silhouette of a medical drip stand: a polished pole, a fine tube, a control switch and, in place of the infusion bag, a matte shade. The irony is obvious, but the message is serious: support, recovery, an inner reserve — the things a fast pace of life is always short of.
By day it is a sculptural object with a recognisable silhouette: a clean pole, an exact proportion, a piece read through form and quotation. In the evening the Driplight "drips" a soft warm light — the best metaphor for recovery a piece of furniture can permit itself.
For all its conceptual bent this is a fully functional floor lamp: 150–170 cm tall, a stable base, a dimmable 8–12 W source — enough light to read by in the armchair beside it.
Where it works
Bold interiors, design spaces, the lounge areas of clinics and studios, private living rooms. The piece needs a viewer who gets the quotation.
Style
Conceptual design and postmodernism: an object as a statement. The message is ironic and humane — a piece for someone who values meaning as much as form.
The height of the pole, the finish and the colour temperature of the light are all made to order.
